2. Your character's talents - what's your spec, and why?

57/3/11 / Arcane, simply because it's the highest DPS Mage spec at this point, and also with my current gear level. Being extremely easy to reach hit cap means I can focus on some more offensive stats. I have never raided in WOTLK, but I have heard Arcane is best suited to some fights because of its ability to still put out some damage whilst on mobile, and is also fairly quick to switch targets, there is not a lot of "set up" time involved in the arcane rotation.


3. What aspects of your talent spec do you believe contribute directly to raid performance?

Arcane Focus/Elemental Precision - 6% hit just with talents, which means as I said above I can gear differently and generally reach higher haste/SP as a pose to a deep fire build.
Presence of Mind/Arcane Power - both on very small timers, significant DPS boost when used at the right time.
Mind Mastery - Flat increase in spell power. Obvious.
Missile Barrage - Can safely say it procs within each rotation of 4 x AB, if not, generally I'll continue AB spam until it does proc. Obvious DPS increase.
Spell Power: 200% crit modifier instead of 150%, pretty obvious.
Netherwind Presence: Spell haste. Mmmm.
Icy Veins: See above <.<


4. Would you consider changing spec to be more useful in raids?

If another spec opened up to be on the same level as Arcane and/or other pure DPS classes, yes of course. If a raid required improved scorch, I would go fire. Of course :)


5. What glyphs are you currently using, and what're your reasons for choosing these?

Molten Armor, Arcane Power, Arcane Missiles.
MA for the extra crit.
AP for longer duration on AP, can usually fit another 2 AB's in with the extra 3 seconds if IV is up.
AM 25% extra crit damage on Arcane Missiles, and since it's used every 6 or so seconds, and Arcane Potency is regularly up this is an obvious DPS increase.

Few things about it; I haven't done much serious raiding at all in WOTLK. I used to raid heavily back in Vanilla with <One> on Blackrock before I moved to Frostmourne. So I'm not a scrub :)

My gear leaves a lot to be desired however I am hit capped for Arcane, and due to not raiding in WOTLK my trinkets are lacking. I am in the middle of farming some more badges for Talisman of Resurgence unless I manage to pick up something better in the mean time.


7. List the stats you believe are core to your class and spec and why.

Hit - number one priority is to cap it.
Spell power - the higher the better.
I believe with crit and haste you need to find a balance. A lot of people swear by haste being number one but crit is also very important. I'd say with the gear I've had available to me through Arena and 5 mans/PUG 10 mans I am at a pretty good balance.


8. Resist sets - Please list any resistance sets you have, and unbuffed statistics for each.

I currently don't have any sets for resist. But do have gold available to get some crafted if need be...

9. What are your long-term gear aims and why?

Nothing really, I would just like to see new content mainly before Cata is released and we never see The Lich King again! But if you're asking seriously... I dunno? It's pretty obvious things need improving. I'd like to see some more solid trinkets, since RNG can make up a huge part of your DPS these days when you have nice trinkets. Overall, needs more spell power, and I really like the look of the T10 bonuses. 2pc looks solid and 4pc is just..... wow. :P

10. What're your professions, and do you have any recipies of note?

Engineering and mining - PVP character since end of Classic WoW, haven't changed since... The JC gems would be a nice addition but it wouldn't make or break me.


11. What are your main goals in WoW, in terms of PvE and PvP?

I just want to see content. I miss the old days with One on Blackrock and Carebears on Frostmourne.

With PVP I've always had reasonably solid teams and with the way the game is now mages are actually required to have some PVE gear to buff their haste due to the fact that their actual set PVP gear doesn't have any. So I guess I'd like to not only see new content and be a part of a guild that's successful in beating it, but also be able to improve my PVP performance like some of these TDM Mages you see running around in 900 haste and their 1.2 second frostbolts. ^_-

12. What games do you play outside of WoW, or what have you played prior to WoW?

MW2 - under the name Skawn.
Currently playing Avatar. Crap game but I really liked the movie so I'm giving it a go :P

13. When did you begin playing WoW, and what got you into it?

Been playing on and off since release, usually like to take small breaks of a few weeks every now and again (I'm talking say every 6 months here) just to keep my mind clear. Nich will vouch for that. Lol.

14. Please list the guilds you've been in since you started playing, and be as complete as possible.

One. (PVE)
Carebears. (PVE)
We Need Druids. (PVP)

15. How did you come to leave these guilds, or if you're still in one, why do you wish to leave?

With One; I rerolled on Frostmourne Horde. And eventually transferred my Mage there.
Carebears, they fell apart mid-way through BC.
We Need Druids, mostly because the good PVPers transferred to Blackrock Horde to give Reckful a good old BJ. Didn't really work out for them. I decided to come to alliance.

16. What raid experience do you have? This includes Classic and BC raiding as well as what you've done in Wrath.

Classic - Everything, up to Sapph in Naxx.
BC - Absolutely nothing, Arena was released. Didn't once enter anything. Oh wait I did Gruul once. :P
WOTLK - Only Naxx.

I'm a quick learner though and always read up on strategies and make sure I'm doing the right thing, every time.

17. ER utilizes a loot council system, not DKP. This means that ultimately gear will be rewarded to the players who would benefit most from it, or deserve it the most as defined by a group of officers and your peers. What do you say to that?

18. Why do you want to join ER?

I have a couple of old Elysium friends in ER for one. And I've been in the guild on my Warrior and Mage for a couple of weeks now and everyone seems really nice. Overall your raid times aren't too drastic, so they suit me quite well, as I've heard you say before you focus not on time spent but more on the quality of the time spent inside your raid times. This is great.

19. Do you know anyone in the guild that will vouch for you? If not, please list at least 3 external references.

23. What regular commitments do you have during your week?

Work usually 8-5, girlfriend. Pretty flexible overall though and Wednesday nights my girlfriend has netball, so I'm free to raid. Other nights we can work around as well :)

24. Are you capped? Are you sure? Have you checked? Are you with TPG?

With Internode, rarely ever get capped...

I love data. Tend to get a little bit depressed when it gets to the bottom... But I just buy myself another block! Bazinga.

25. If you answered 'no' to the TPG question in #24, who's your ISP, what's your connection, and how often do you get shaped/capped?

Internode, 8mbit, rarely/never.

26. What other things do you spend time doing for recreation other than WoW? What are your interests/hobbies/etc?

I play guitar, alot. Like, alot alot. Probably for 2-3 hours after work. I even have my acoustic AT work to play in my lunch hour. I love spending time with my girlfriend and going camping and stuff. WoW comes last in my life at the moment but that's not to say I don't spend a good amount of time on it and enjoy it thoroughly!

27. Do you use Ventrilo or Teamspeak? If you do, do you use it just to listen or do you participate in conversation?

Generally I'm pretty quiet, usually if I'm on vent and not raiding I'll sit there jamming on my guitar instead while I wait for something to happen. But if it's an interesting conversation I'll take part.


28. Would you be interested in meeting your fellow guildies IRL?

I met Nich years ago. But yeah if I came to the mainland, sure.

29. You walk into a bar, what do you order:

Don't have a favourite song as such. Big fan of metal. Or anything really with some nice sounding guitar in it. Ripping solos etc.

Favourite movie right now would be Law Abiding Citizen. Loves it.

Back on topic - Noticed your only friendly with SoH, would suggest farming SoH rep to get the exalted shoulder enchants if you haven't already done so on your warrior (BoA now, apparently). Apart from that can't really say much about your gear as it's mainly PvP. If you have any PvE gear log out in it so Nikki can have a look at it and point you in the right direction in terms of spec, min/maxing etc :D

I'm not sure, but I think Glyph of AB > Glyph of AP.

What Veck and Nish said. I really cant comment much based on pvp gearing.

Ok I've switched round AP Glyph for AB Glyph. AB is what I used to glyph when this spec first became viable, not sure what made me change. :/

And yeah I was going to turn in SoH marks for the rep. Just did it on my warrior and have a tonne left over for my mage as well.

As for this gear set, it pretty much is what I PVE in at the moment. I'm hit capped, have reasonable haste and SP, the only thing that's lacking is crit.

That said, I still pull about 4-.4.4k on a target dummy, when running PUGs like VOA and OS I'm usually pulling 6k+. With some more PVE gear I can see this skyrocketing.

As I said I'm working on a new trinket.

I'll also be working on the Triumph badge ring as well, that's only a day or two off.

I'm not the best geared for this but I think I'm more than capable. At the end of the day the gear isn't really gamebreaking. I think knowing the fights and executing the role perfectly is a lot more important. At the end of the day there's only a few pieces of my gear I'd really need to replace so I can gem properly as a pose to gem SP/SPen for PVP :P

You are right, you are hit capped, and your sp/crit is decent. I'd be building your haste from this point though, not crit.

Spec is fine, gemming (aside from the pvp gems) is fine. Odd that you arent using any engineering enchants, as they are pretty powerful.

You may also want to look at trying to get things like Abyssal Rune (trinket), crafted bracers/legs (these are now BiS anyways)/robes for PvE. Otherwise, as you said, its a matter of picking up some PvE gear to replace all that resil ><

I'd be shooting to get t10 2 pce as soon as you can too.... this would be a huge boost to your dps.

Yeah, I realise I can do so much better. I've never really thought too much about crafted gear, but I'll look into it. :)

I'm going to modify my spec a little if am accepted, the reason I take slow is because occasionally I'll BG with arcane (SotA demolishers as PvE Arcane lol) so slow is handy. I'll pick up 3/3 Student of the Mind instead of 1/3.

It's difficult to obtain T10 gear when you don't have achievements. Can't get into any PUG ICC runs for Frost badges because I've never done it before. So I'm relying on raid weekly and daily heroic.

Update, have obtained Abyssal Rune to replace Sundial. Which has bumped my haste up to 722 in PvE gear. Also obtained Talisman of Resurgence. Which means I have dropped 150 SP but gained the SP on use and some pretty solid crit.

Also exalted with SoH for shoulder enchant.

And added hyperspeed to gloves. Will get 27SP on a PvE cloak if I get it, but I need 35 SPen for Arena on the Wrathful one.

You will need to correct your gear with a more appropriate PvE setup ASAP however - I would suggest turning up to 10s nights and seeing if there are open spots.
